S.S. Rajamouli’s Baahubali franchise has once again proven its monumental box office appeal. A newly re-edited, single-film version titled Baahubali – The Epic hit theaters on October 31 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the saga. The film is shattering records for a re-release, drawing massive crowds and earning over ₹13 crore net in India in its first two days.
The film, which condenses Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017) into one 3-hour and 45-minute experience, launched with phenomenal numbers. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, The Epic minted ₹10.4 crore net in India on its opening day.
This performance establishes a new benchmark for a re-released film, easily surpassing the opening day collections of previous record-holders like Ghilli (reportedly ₹4.87 crore) and Gabbar Singh (₹5.75 crore). The momentum continued into its second day, with early estimates adding another ₹2.64 crore, bringing the two-day domestic total to ₹13.04 crore.
Global Success and Audience Breakdown
The film’s success is not confined to India. It received a wide global launch across more than 1,150 cinemas, including over 400 screens in the US and 210 in the UK and Ireland.
On its first day, The Epic grossed a total of ₹19 crore worldwide. This impressive figure comprised ₹12.50 crore (gross) from India and a strong ₹6.50 crore from overseas markets. Reports also indicated that its North American premiere shows alone collected nearly $500,000.
Audience response has been strongest in the franchise’s home markets. On Saturday morning, the Telugu version commanded a robust 37.34% occupancy, with the Tamil version following at 29.48%.
However, the Hindi market has been significantly cooler. The Hindi version registered a low 7.95% occupancy in morning shows. Consequently, the film failed to break the opening day record for a Hindi-specific re-release, which is still held by Sanam Teri Kasam (₹4.5 crore). The Epic earned ₹1.4 crore from its Hindi audience on day one.
A Continuing Legacy
Produced by Arka Media Works, Baahubali – The Epic stars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, and Tamannaah Bhatia. The original Baahubali 2: The Conclusion was the first Hindi-dubbed film to cross the ₹500 crore mark and the first Indian film ever to earn ₹1000 crore globally.
With its powerful opening weekend, this new version is on track to become the highest-grossing re-released film in Indian cinema history.
