Nitish Kumar elected NDA leader set to become Bihar CM for record 10th time November 20 2025

Patna, The wait is almost over for Bihar. Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar was today unanimously elected as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state. This clears the way for him to take oath as Chief Minister for a record 10th time tomorrow, November 20.

The big ceremony will happen at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, many Union ministers and Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states are expected to come. Heavy security is already in place all around the ground.

How the Day Went Step by Step

Today morning, all newly elected JD(U) MLAs met at the Chief Minister’s house. They chose Nitish Kumar as their legislature party leader without any vote – everyone agreed happily.

Then in the afternoon, BJP MLAs held their meeting. They elected Samrat Choudhary as their legislature party leader and Vijay Kumar Sinha as deputy leader. Both will continue as Deputy Chief Ministers.

After that, all NDA MLAs from JD(U), BJP, LJP (Ram Vilas), HAM and Rashtriya Lok Morcha came together at the Vidhan Sabha. BJP leader Samrat Choudhary proposed Nitish Kumar’s name as NDA leader. Everyone clapped and accepted it.

Nitish Kumar later went to Raj Bhawan and gave his resignation from the old government to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. He also gave letters of support from all NDA partners.

The Massive NDA Victory That Made This Possible

Just a few days back, Bihar went to polls. NDA won a huge victory – 202 seats out of 243.

  • BJP: 89 seats (biggest party)
  • JD(U): 85 seats
  • LJP (Ram Vilas) led by Chirag Paswan: 19 seats
  • HAM (Jitan Ram Manjhi): 5 seats
  • Rashtriya Lok Morcha (Upendra Kushwaha): 4 seats

The opposition Mahagathbandhan got only 35 seats. RJD won 25, Congress just 6.

This is the second time NDA crossed 200 seats in Bihar – first was in 2010.

Why This 10th Term is So Special for Nitish Kumar

Nitish Kumar first became CM in March 2000 for just 7 days. Then from 2005 to 2014 he ruled with BJP. After that he broke and joined with RJD-Congress, came back to NDA, went again – people call him “Paltu Ram” for changing sides.

But this time, he fought the whole election with BJP and won big. No one in India has become CM 10 times like this.

Nitish is 74 years old now. He started politics as a young man with Jayaprakash Narayan’s movement. He is famous for good roads, schools for girls, law and order and banning liquor.

What Nitish Kumar Said Today

After becoming NDA leader, Nitish Kumar told reporters: “Hum sab milkar Bihar ko aur aage le jayenge. Jo vikas ka kaam shuru kiya tha, usko tez karenge. Mahilaon ke liye, yuvaon ke liye, garibon ke liye aur zyada kaam karna hai.”

(We will all together take Bihar further ahead. We will speed up the development work we started. More work for women, youth and poor people.)

What BJP Leaders Said

Samrat Choudhary (soon to be Deputy CM again): “Nitish ji ke netritva mein NDA ne itihas rach diya. Ab Bihar developed state banega. Modi ji ka sapna pura karenge.”

(Nitish ji’s leadership created history for NDA. Now Bihar will become a developed state. We will fulfil Modi ji’s dream.)

Vijay Kumar Sinha (other Deputy CM): “Janata ne jo vishwas diya hai, usko nibhayenge. Sabka saath, sabka vikas.”

(We will live up to the trust people gave. Development for all.)

Chirag Paswan and Other Allies Happy

Young leader Chirag Paswan whose party won 19 seats said: “Paswan samaj ne NDA ko poora support diya. Ab Bihar mein nayi energy aayegi.”

(Paswan community gave full support to NDA. New energy will come in Bihar.)

Jitan Ram Manjhi and Upendra Kushwaha also praised Nitish Kumar and said they are ready to work together.

Preparations at Gandhi Maidan

Nitish Kumar himself went to Gandhi Maidan yesterday with Samrat Choudhary to check arrangements. Big stage is ready. Thousands of chairs, huge LED screens, tight security – everything is set.

Opposition Reaction

Tejashwi Yadav (RJD) said people will teach NDA a lesson next time. But today everyone is talking only about Nitish Kumar’s big win.

Prashant Kishor whose party won zero seats said he accepts people’s verdict but will keep working on ground.

What Bihar People Are Saying

In villages and cities, people are happy that government is stable again. One auto driver in Patna told our reporter: “Nitish babu ne sadak banwaya, bijli diya, daru band kiya – ab aur kaam karenge.”

A woman teacher said: “Ladkiyon ke liye cycle, school – sab Nitish ji ne kiya. Unko phir mauka milna chahiye.”
