Jaipur, Rajasthan Patients – In a major relief for thousands of patients from Rajasthan, the state government has decided to extend the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and the Chief Minister Ayushman Arogya Yojana to hospitals in Gujarat. This will allow Rajasthan residents to avail cashless treatment in Gujarat’s empanelled hospitals starting December 15, 2025.
The decision follows a letter written by Udaipur MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, highlighting the difficulties faced by Rajasthan patients seeking treatment in Gujarat. Dr. Rawat expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Minister for taking prompt action on the issue.
Dr. Mannalal Rawat said, “This is a big relief for thousands of Rajasthan patients. Now, under the Ayushman Bharat and Chief Minister Ayushman Arogya schemes, cashless treatment will be available in Gujarat’s recognised hospitals as well. This will particularly benefit patients suffering from serious illnesses such as cancer, kidney diseases, heart ailments, and others who have long faced financial hardships while seeking treatment in Gujarat.”

The state government has decided to implement outbound portability under the scheme. From December 15, 2025, beneficiaries of Rajasthan’s Ayushman card will be able to receive cashless treatment anywhere in the country.
The MP had brought the matter to the Chief Minister’s attention, stating that many residents from his Lok Sabha constituency had complained that Rajasthan’s Ayushman card holders were not being provided free treatment under the scheme in Gujarat. People from southern Rajasthan, including Udaipur, Dungarpur, and Banswara districts, frequently travel to Gujarat for medical care, but private hospitals there were not offering cashless treatment to holders of the Chief Minister Ayushman Arogya Yojana and Ayushman Vay Vandana cards.
Dr. Rawat had urged the Chief Minister to ensure that Rajasthan’s Ayushman card holders receive free treatment in Gujarat’s private hospitals. The state government responded swiftly, and the facility will become operational from December 15, 2025.

This move is expected to significantly ease the financial burden on patients from southern Rajasthan who rely on Gujarat’s advanced healthcare facilities.
What is the Ayushman Scheme?
The Ayushman scheme is a big government health program in India. There are two main parts:
- Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) – This is a central government scheme started in 2018. It gives free health insurance up to Rs 5 lakh per family every year for hospital treatment. It covers poor and needy families across India.
- Mukhyamantri Ayushman Arogya Yojana – This is the Rajasthan state version. It gives extra benefits and higher cover (up to Rs 25 lakh in some cases) to Rajasthan families. It works along with the central scheme.
With the Ayushman card, people can go to any government or private hospital in the list (empanelled hospitals) and get treatment without paying money from their pocket. The government pays the hospital directly.
