New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to authorize the next round of financial support under the flagship PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) initiative next week. According to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the 21st installment of the scheme will be released on November 19, 2025.
This upcoming disbursement continues the government’s direct income support program, which was originally launched on February 24, 2019. Under the scheme, eligible land-holding farmer families receive an annual benefit of ₹6,000, transferred in three equal installments.
Financial Impact and Reach
The Agriculture Ministry highlighted the scale of the program in a recent statement, noting that over ₹3.70 lakh crore has already been transferred to approximately 11 crore farming families across the previous 20 tranches.
Officials emphasized that this liquidity is crucial for the agricultural community. The funds are primarily utilized for:
- Procuring essential farm inputs (seeds, fertilizers, equipment).
- Covering domestic expenses such as medical bills, education, and marriage costs.
Eligibility and Mandatory Requirements
To ensure seamless receipt of the funds, the government has outlined strict compliance measures for beneficiaries:
- Land Seeding: Farmers must ensure their land ownership details are correctly updated on the official PM-KISAN portal.
- Aadhaar Linking: Beneficiaries are required to link their designated bank accounts with their Aadhaar numbers.
To maximize coverage, the government has been conducting village-level saturation drives. These campaigns aim to verify and include all eligible land-owning farmers who may have previously been missed.
Rural Economic Growth
The ministry’s statement referenced a 2019 impact study by the International Food and Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) to underscore the scheme’s effectiveness. The study suggests that PM-KISAN transfers have successfully:
- Acted as a catalyst for rural economic activity.
- Reduced credit constraints for small-scale farmers.
- Boosted investment in agricultural inputs.
Future Outlook: The Farmer Registry
Looking ahead, the Agriculture Ministry is prioritizing “last-mile coverage.” A new initiative is currently underway to build a comprehensive Farmer Registry. This centralized, verified database is designed to simplify administrative hurdles, eliminating the need for farmers to navigate complex processes to access future social welfare benefits.
